Christian Carollo tuvo una gran idea: recorrer el mundo siguiendo los pasos de sus abuelos. Hace cuatro años que esta viajando por todo Estados Unidos juntó las fotografías de su abuelo y los diarios de su abuela.
Lower Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park | April 1979 & May 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother’s travel journal on April 21st, 1979: “Yosemite Falls again, but from the south side drive, it shows the Upper Fall foaming into a big bowl of snow! Walked onto the brown wooden bridge over the crystal-clear shallow river with pussy willow bushes, mirrored in the water.” #pastpresentproject –
Groveland, California | April 1979 & May 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother’s travel journal on April 23rd, 1979: “Groveland — and the Iron Door Bar, 1849. And down towards a big lake ‘New Don Pedro Reservoir’ in steep and sharp curves.” #pastpresentproject When I entered the Iron Door Saloon, which happens to be the oldest saloon in California, I came across a man sitting at the bar who told me he was in 11th grade the year my grandfather’s photo was taken. He went on to tell me that he and a few seniors used to park behind the bar and enjoy a few beers inside the bar after school. I believed him. I also had the chance to show the current young owner what his bar looked like in 1979, which he loved. When I offered him a copy of the photograph, his face lit up and he declared “That’s badass!” – –
Utah State Capitol Building in Salt Lake City, Utah | September 1974 & September 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother’s travel journal on September 17th, 1974: “Over to the Capitol — marble inside, wide splitting staircases on both sides and the ‘Golden Room’, heavily carved and gold leaf covered beam ceiling with a painting in the middle.” #pastpresentproject –
Chinatown in San Francisco, California | April 1979 & May 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother’s travel journal on April 27th, 1979: “Chinatown was more than we ever expected — many square blocks and full of people, not so much tourists as Asians. In and out of stores, looking at hundreds of items, buying a kite, walking and walking until we were tired and hungry.” #pastpresentproject – –
Christian bautizó esta serie de fotografías con el nombre de “PastPresent Project”. En sus redes sociales dice que con este proyecto quiere honrar a su abuelo quien le transmitió el amor por sus dos pasiones: los viajes y la fotografía.
Yosemite National Park, California | April 1979 & May 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother’s travel journal on April 20th, 1979: “Entering Yosemite National Park — clean and cool air, the smell of pine & redwoods. Stopping at several photo spots, going through the long long tunnel, into the valley itself.” #pastpresentproject –
My #2015BestNine! It’s no coincidence that a majority of my most liked posts were #PastPresentProject related. The project had a really exciting year with a ton of national and global exposure. While a lot of great things happened this past year, I’m already planning and working towards even more exciting goals for the project in 2016! –
Este proyecto no va a terminar pronto, Christian piensa seguir recorriendo todo Estados Unidos hasta completar la colección de fotos de sus abuelos.
